Ways to Spend Quality Time with Your Kids

Life’s hectic! Between work, business trips, errands, cooking, cleaning and extracurricular activities, you barely have any free time to spend with your children. And if you’re in a fast-paced industry, that only makes matters worse. Fortunately, there are many ways to make the most of your time together.

Volunteer

The world is full of individuals in need and organizations to help fill the gap, so why not do your part in giving back? Let your kids tag along. Not only will they understand the significance of lending a helping hand to underfunded organizations, but the two (or more) of you will have loads of fun while spending quality time together. Organizations, such as the American Red Cross and United Way, have a plethora of volunteer opportunities available. Also, inquire with local organizations about future events that may need volunteers.

Explore

Whether it’s a visit to a monument, nature trail or community park, exploring the great outdoors is a healthy activity for both you and your little ones. You will have the opportunity to embrace nature and create precious memories together. Don’t forget to bring along the sandwiches for the picnic and balls for games.

Be Active

Get outside for a Saturday bike ride. Or take a moon walk around the block as a whole family after everyone is home from work and school and done with dinner. If the weather is just too cold to find your way outdoors, stay indoors and be active. Play a game of hide and seek together, or check out the fitness games available on the Wii and Xbox One. From dance games to yoga, you can get a work out while entertaining and wearing out your kids.

Play

Who said you have to leave the comforts of your home to spend quality time with your children? Pick up a movie from Redbox or dust off a board game that’s been stowed away in the closet. Prepare a few appetizers and yummy drinks and play the night away. If you’re going for the movie option, grab some popcorn, candy and soda for some entertainment on the couch.

Eat

No desire to fork over a large wad of cash at a high-end dining establishment? No worries. Simply whip up your children’s favorite meal in the kitchen while they lend a helping hand. Pizza always does the trick, and there are a variety of kits at your local grocer to choose from. Or, you all can create restaurant dishes using CopyKat Recipes. Besides, they’ll more than likely prefer a fun-filled night in the kitchen over the not so kid-friendly, dining experience any day.

Craft

Let the creative juices flow with an impromptu arts and crafts session. You can either find unique craft ideas online from sites such as Pinterest, Rose Art and Crayola, or sit down with your collection of supplies and use your imagination to create an artistic masterpiece.

Regardless of which activity you choose, your children appreciate your willingness to take time out of your busy schedule to spend precious moments with them and create memories that will last a lifetime.
