Kids, reading and pets

Study shows big benefit when children read to dogs. Researchers from the UC-Davis recently discussed their research in which children read regularly to dogs. In one of the studies, the 7- to 12-year-old home-schooled students visited each week to read stories to specially selected therapy dogs. At the end of the study, the kids showed a 30-percent improvement in reading fluency. Kids may feel more confident when reading to a dog than to other kids or adults.
