Soy and Menopause: Does It Help Hot Flashes?

Does soy take the “heat” out of a hot flash? According to brand new research… the answer is no.

Women were followed for over ten years. Each year, participants reported on the frequency of hot flashes and night sweats. Researchers focused on the consumption of phytoestrogens, which mimic the effects of estrogen in the body, and are found in tofu, soy milk and other soy-based foods. Since estrogen levels drop during menopause, the investigators hypothesized that a diet high in phytoestrogens would reduce menopause symptoms. But, the study showed soy products did not prevent the onset of hot flashes and night sweats.
