Colic Migraine Connection?

Having a colicky baby can be a challenge for new parents. The causes are not well understood… and the inconsolable crying is often assumed to be a pain syndrome.

A new study finds children who experience migraine headaches are more likely to have been colicky infants.

French researchers used data from 208 children… 6 to 18 years old…who were diagnosed with migraines during a trip to the emergency room in the Spring of 2012. 471 other children in the same age range were used as a control group. All of their parents were asked to fill out a detailed questionnaire that specifically asked about history of colic.

The results: children with migraine were much more likely to have suffered colic in fact, 72.6-percent reported colic compared to 26.5 percent of the control group.

The researchers then conducted a second study to see if a link to colic would also be found in children with tension-type headaches. but they found no association there.
